In many ways, electronic dance music is about the coming together of human creativity and technology, with new tools and ways of working often serving as catalysts for the scene’s evolution. At Beatport, we welcome tools that propel the space forward, but our priority is - and always will be - the people behind the music.
The entire music industry is adapting in real time to the ever-developing impact of artificial intelligence (AI) in our space. As a community, we are still evaluating where to draw the line between AI-driven tools which support the creative process, and those which circumvent or exploit human artistry. While we welcome technologies that move music forward and make the production process more accessible, Beatport exists to empower human creators. Therefore, it is our policy not to accept music on our platform that has been wholly or substantially generated by AI. To be clear, this policy targets generative AI and the use of AI to clone or replicate the voices or performances of other artists without explicit, legally cleared permission.
At this time we are not discouraging the use of assistive AI tools for mixing, mastering, stem separation, or standard audio processing, so long as we continue to see these as tools utilized to enhance human creativity. We will endeavour to accurately identify when tracks have been created with generative AI-assistance (and in what way AI-has been used), and give our curators this information to consider when deciding what to feature.
